Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant missed team meeting on Monday

by

It's clear that Martavis Bryant doesn't want to play for the Steelers, but has he simply decided to stop going to work?

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bryant was absent from mandatory team meetings on Monday. A teammate of Bryant said he "called in sick."

Accusing Bryant of lying without knowing all the facts would not be right but it can't be denied that the timing is suspicious.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month that Bryant wasn't happy in Pittsburgh and that he wanted to be traded. Bryant would deny the report with funny remark but his actions after that indicate that it was accurate.

After Sunday's 29-14 win over the Bengals, Bryant criticized rookie wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in an Instagram comment that he later deleted. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler spoke to someone close to Bryant, who told him he "wants out" of Pittsburgh.

Bryant has been suspended several times for failed drug tests and he could be suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Finding someone willing to trade for him can be complicated so an outright release is a possibility. Looselines Sportsbook has the Steelers at +750 to win Super Bowl LII.
